Check Your Credit Report for Identity Theft
By Advisor on Jul 23, 2008 in Finance
Checking and monitoring your credit report for possible identity theft is significant these days with the increasing amount of cases that there are in America. You can get a free copy of your credit report once a year and it is advisable to do so in order to protect yourself. Order your free copy by going to the website that is obligated by law to allow one per year at no cost. It is a combination of all of the three big credit reporting agencies and it is called annualcreditreport.com.
Once you get your report, go over it in depth to make sure that there aren’t any discrepancies in any loans or credit cards that you possess. Note the balances and credit limits because thieves can charge up your cards faster than you even know. Also check the inquiries at the bottom to see if any unknown creditors have checked your report.
If you find that everything looks legitimate, you’ll now need to store or dispose of your credit report, also taking precautions against theft by using a good home shredder, like an ishop shredder. Always use shredder oil to keep your personal shredder working properly and destroy all of your documents, including your credit report when you are finished checking it.
