Why I Chose a CPAP Machine Instead of Surgery
By Advisor on Dec 23, 2007 in Health
From a young age, I have suffered from a mild case of obstructive sleep apnea. Some nights were better than others, but many times I would wake up in the middle of the night trying to breathe. When I finally got married, I was more or less pushed into a doctor’s office to talk with a professional about my condition and what options were available on the market. I was told that mine was a natural condition – one that required a more advanced approach than simple diet change. So, I was given two choices. Go in for a risky, expensive surgery to repair a part of my palette, or try out a new machine that may or may not work. I opted for the CPAP machine.
I have since talked to many people who opted for the surgery and have found that my decision, despite the inconvenience a sleep apnea machine can sometimes create when trying to take a simple nap or go to sleep naturally. All I have to say is that I am glad I chose the easy way out because I am incredibly happy with the quality of the CPAP option I took. It has made essentially every night since I brought it home free of problems.
